This was a comprehensive expansion to further the Anchorage Museum’s dedication to studying and exploring Alaska’s land, peoples, art, and history.
The expansion provided a new wing with a much needed 30,000 SF of additional gallery space, allowing for greater public access to the museum’s art collection and including the Art of the North Galleries. Additional spaces included a new temporary gallery, Patrons Lounge, administrative offices and informal galleries that connect to the recently renovated atrium, also designed by MCG. An expansion the hands-on Imaginarium Discovery Center was also included, as well as an outdoor patio for public programs.
Now new and improved, the Anchorage Museum continues to be the cultural cornerstone of Anchorage and provides stewardship of Alaska’s cultural heritage, community social space, and education and outreach.
